APC members oppose senator’s recall in Kwara

Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Kwara South Senatorial zone, Alhaji Jimoh Balogun, on Friday said the party was against a process initiated by the Kwara South Unity Forum to recall the senator representing the area in the upper legislative arm of the National Assembly, Dr. Rafiu Ibrahim.
According to him, the chairmen of the party in the seven local government areas that make up the zone, including all executive members, were also against the recall process.
President and Secretary of the KSUF, Mr. John Adegboye, and Mr. Ahmed Akorede; had during a briefing with journalists, presented acknowledged copies of letters for Ibrahim’s recall, which they wrote to the Independent National Electoral Commission and also copied the office of the President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki.

The group had accused Ibrahim of poor representation, lack of respect and bringing his office to disrepute by kneeling before Saraki. They cited these as grounds for their action.
But denying the claim, Balogun had, while separately interacting with journalists, described Ibrahim as a performer, adding that the recall process would not succeed.
He said, “It is through the senator that the people of the district realised that political office was that of service and not of lordship.
“Those after his recall are enemies of the district, who are bent on taking us backward. We will resist any attempt to truncate our progression and development.
“Senator Ibrahim is never threatened by the recall process.  When the news broke, he went about inaugurating projects in the senatorial district. He met with traditional rulers and related very well with party members.  He is not feeling threatened at all because he has done the best he can.”
Speaking further, Balogun said that the Senate President, being a principled person, would not subscribe to anyone kneeling before him, let alone allow a fellow lawmaker to do so.
